The Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction (IUL) is hosting a discussion in cooperation with the Office of Research Support Services on the ethical challenges in academic publishing open to all members of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr). The event provides a platform for industry experts and researchers to share their insights and experiences in academic publishing.

Guest Spekers are Timo Bazuin and Francesco Papi from Elsevier. Bazuin has over ten years' experience working in academic publishing in various roles and is the publishing contact responsible for managing the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering journal portfolio at Elsevier. Papi joined as an Associate Scientific Editor in Chemistry journals in 2022 and moved to Elsevier’s Ethics Team in 2023. Topics for their talks include the complexities of publication pressure, plagiarism and falsification in the scientific community as well as tools for countering misconduct.

Participants are invited to share their own experiences and to ask questions during the discussion. The event is moderated by Prof. A. Erman Tekkaya. The welcome address is given by Prof. Nele McElvany.
