Documents to be submitted

Here you will find a list of documents to be submitted for enrollment at TU Dortmund University.

Please note:

  • Please pay attention to the correct form of your enrollment documents PDF Information on the form of certification.
  • In order to avoid unnecessary waiting times, we kindly ask you to send us your documents by mail only. Alternatively, you can drop the documents in the mailbox of the Student Secretariat at Emil-Figge-Straße 61 in 44227 Dortmund at any time.
  • Please send us only complete documents so that your enrollment is not unnecessarily delayed.

This list only applies to you if you are an "external" prospective student or are currently no longer enrolled at TU Dortmund University. Otherwise, use the application for change of studies(after successful re-registration for the next semester).

  • Mandatory: Signed "Application for enrollment". This must be printed out after online enrollment. If you would like to authorize someone, you can find a letter of authorization here.
  • mandatory: university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur) in officially certified copy
  • mandatory: notification of health insurance about insurance status. Further information can be found here.
  • Enrollment requirements: Certificate of passed aptitude test(s) / proof of enrollment requirements in officially certified copy.
  • Have you already studied at another German university? Exmatriculation certificate from the previous university. (The threat of exmatriculation is not sufficient!)
  • You have already studied at another German university? Certificate of no objection from the previous university
  • You want to enter a higher semester? Completed "Application for Recognition of academic qualifications", signed by the responsible examination board.
  • Mandatory: Signed "Application for enrollment". This must be printed out after online enrollment. If you would like to authorize someone, you can find a letter of authorization here.

  • Mandatory: Signed "Application for enrollment". This must be printed out after online enrollment. If you would like to authorize someone, you can find a letter of authorization here.
  • Mandatory: Proof of a German university degree (in officially certified copy) usually by the bachelor's degree certificate. Alternatively, a signed confirmation of the bachelor's degree stating the overall grade and the graduation date in an officially certified copy.
  • Mandatory: University entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur) in an officially certified copy. Exception: The certificate of entrance qualification to a university of applied sciences or foreign school leaving certificates do not have to be submitted.

  • You have already studied at another German university? Exmatriculation certificate from the previous university (the threat of exmatriculation is not sufficient!). The exmatriculation certificate can be submitted later for enrollment in the case of Master's admission.

  • Do you want to enter a higher semester? Completed "Application for Recognition of academic qualifications", signed by the responsible examination board.

  • compulsory: Final certificate of the First State Examination from NRW in officially certified copy, or (in case of a state examination outside NRW) the recognition via the district government or certificate of equivalence of the State Examination Office as First State Examination or (for students of the LPO 1994/2003) proof of the intermediate certificates. Note: In the subject combination of the above-mentioned study program, it is mandatory to have studied English/Anglistics together with another subject; the other subject may not have been German or another foreign language.

  • mandatory: university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur certificate) as an officially certified copy
  • Mandatory: Confirmation from the Institute of English and American Studies that theadmission requirements have been met(PDF form for admission to the additional study program Bilingual Teaching and Learning). Personal appearance at the Institute is required.

New enrollment

If you are newly enrolling at TU Dortmund University for your doctorate or if you are re-enrolling at TU Dortmund University after exmatriculation, you must submit the following documents:

  • compelling: signed "Application for enrollment". This must be printed out after online enrollment.
  • Mandatory: University degree certificate (e.g. Master's degree, diploma) as an officially certified copy.
  • mandatory: admission to doctoral studies. proof of admission by a certificate from the doctoral committee.
  • If applicable, already studied at another German university? Exmatriculation certificate from the previous university (the threat of exmatriculation is not sufficient!)

 

Transcription for already enrolled students

If you are already enrolled as a student at TU Dortmund University, you can submit an application for a change of study directly to the Registrar's Office:

  • mandatory: application for change of studies
  • mandatory: university degree certificate (e.g. Master's degree, Diplom) as an officially certified copy
  • compulsory: admission to doctoral studies. proof of admission by a certificate from the doctoral committee.
  • If applicable, already studied at another German university? Exmatriculation certificate from the previous university (The threat of exmatriculation is not sufficient!)

Location & approach

The campus of TU Dort­mund University is located close to interstate junction Dort­mund West, where the Sauerlandlinie A 45 (Frankfurt-Dort­mund) crosses the Ruhrschnellweg B 1 / A 40. The best interstate exit to take from A 45 is “Dort­mund-Eichlinghofen” (closer to South Campus), and from B 1 / A 40 “Dort­mund-Dorstfeld” (closer to North Campus). Signs for the uni­ver­si­ty are located at both exits. Also, there is a new exit before you pass over the B 1-bridge leading into Dort­mund.

To get from North Campus to South Campus by car, there is the connection via Vogelpothsweg/Baroper Straße. We recommend you leave your car on one of the parking lots at North Campus and use the H-Bahn (suspended monorail system), which conveniently connects the two campuses.

TU Dort­mund University has its own train station (“Dort­mund Uni­ver­si­tät”). From there, suburban trains (S-Bahn) leave for Dort­mund main station (“Dort­mund Hauptbahnhof”) and Düsseldorf main station via the “Düsseldorf Airport Train Station” (take S-Bahn number 1, which leaves every 15 or 30 minutes). The uni­ver­si­ty is easily reached from Bochum, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr and Duisburg.

You can also take the bus or subway train from Dort­mund city to the uni­ver­si­ty: From Dort­mund main station, you can take any train bound for the Station “Stadtgarten”, usually lines U41, U45, U 47 and U49. At “Stadtgarten” you switch trains and get on line U42 towards “Hombruch”. Look out for the Station “An der Palmweide”. From the bus stop just across the road, busses bound for TU Dort­mund University leave every ten minutes (445, 447 and 462). Another option is to take the subway routes U41, U45, U47 and U49 from Dort­mund main station to the stop “Dort­mund Kampstraße”. From there, take U43 or U44 to the stop “Dort­mund Wittener Straße”. Switch to bus line 447 and get off at “Dort­mund Uni­ver­si­tät S”.

The H-Bahn is one of the hallmarks of TU Dort­mund University. There are two stations on North Campus. One (“Dort­mund Uni­ver­si­tät S”) is directly located at the suburban train stop, which connects the uni­ver­si­ty directly with the city of Dort­mund and the rest of the Ruhr Area. Also from this station, there are connections to the “Technologiepark” and (via South Campus) Eichlinghofen. The other station is located at the dining hall at North Campus and offers a direct connection to South Campus every five minutes.

The AirportExpress is a fast and convenient means of transport from Dortmund Airport (DTM) to Dortmund Central Station, taking you there in little more than 20 minutes. From Dortmund Central Station, you can continue to the university campus by interurban railway (S-Bahn). A larger range of international flight connections is offered at Düsseldorf Airport (DUS), which is about 60 kilometres away and can be directly reached by S-Bahn from the university station.

The facilities of TU Dortmund University are spread over two campuses, the larger Campus North and the smaller Campus South. Additionally, some areas of the university are located in the adjacent “Technologiepark”.
