Sustainability

TU Dortmund University understands sustainability as an integrative concept that ensures the long-term functionality of the global ecological, economic and social system. Important foundations to ensure this functionality are the protection of the environment as well as socially and economically responsible actions. TU Dortmund University contributes to these foundations through scientific findings and the transfer of knowledge to society. Sustainable action is thus one of the operational and strategic goals of TU Dortmund University.

The developed measures complement and expand the regular offer of TU Dortmund University in the field of sustainability. Further information can be found on the page of the Sustainability Office.

In addition to the previous offers, further innovative measures have been developed and implemented under the responsibility of Dr. Henning Moldenhauer (since 01.09.2022) and Bastian Stahlbuck (until 31.08.2022).

Measures

Universities have a special responsibility to promote education for sustainable development. For this reason, a sustainability certificate has been offered at TU Dortmund University since the winter semester 2021/22, which students can obtain in addition to their studies. Students must take at least three modules with a total of 10 credit points and subsequently receive a certificate from the study oecologicum.

How should TU Dortmund University become more sustainable? What will the university look like in the future? According to the motto "just do it", the annual workshop series "Campus of the Future" implements visions and projects that transform the university into a sustainable university. All members of TU Dortmund University are welcome to get involved in a creative working atmosphere at eye level.

Sustainability lends itself to interdisciplinary research and collaboration like almost no other topic. The Sustainability Network Meeting (NeNa) offers researchers at TU Dortmund University a platform for this purpose. Here, researchers can network in order to conduct interdisciplinary research or teach on the topic of sustainability. In the long term, this can lead to new interdisciplinary research projects, for example.
