Continuing education for seniors

Studies for senior citizens

Lifelong learning is an essential prerequisite for individual well-being and for social participation in old age. The continuing education program for seniors at TU Dortmund University offers older people a range of opportunities for qualified, lifelong learning and educational opportunities.

Who can take the senior degree program?

The continuing education program for seniors is an offer of academic continuing education for adults who intend to consciously plan their lives for old age after their professional or family phase.

The study program is open to interested persons from the age of 50. The Abitur is not a prerequisite for participation. Participants must meet the following requirements:

  • Continuous participation over five semesters
  • Internship and submission of an internship report
  • Submission of a final thesis

Participation and successful completion are certified by a certificate.

What are the contents of the senior studies?

On the one hand, older people acquire competencies in the sense of "developmental education" for a self-determined shaping of the life phase of old age and, on the other hand, knowledge and competencies for a social commitment.

Students put together their own personal study plan from a list of selected events. The main focus is on courses in social gerontology, sociology, educational science, psychology, philosophy, theology and rehabilitation science.
