Prof. Tessa Flatten and Dr. Barbara Schneider condemn the violence against the demonstrators on behalf the university.

On behalf of TU Dortmund University, we would like to express our solidarity with the courageous men and women in Iran who are campaigning for human rights and retaliating against suppression and discrimination. We are very concerned about the situation in the country following the tragic death of Jina Amini.

Dozens of people have already been killed in the protests. With the blockade of Sharif University in Tehran on Monday night and the violent assaults on students and staff, a place that stands for education, freedom and peaceful exchange of knowledge has now been attacked. We strongly condemn the use of violence against peaceful demonstrators.

This situation also affects students and staff at TU Dortmund University from Iran or with Iranian roots. We stand in solidarity with them. Our Psychological Student Advisory Service offers its services in German and English to all those affected – during telephone consultation hours, by email or by individual appointment. The Refugee Counseling and Integration Office can also provide support.

Our university stands for freedom and equality and supports – here and worldwide – peaceful advocacy for these human rights.
