Prof. Tekkaya has headed the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction at TU Dortmund University since 2007.

International award for Prof. A. Erman Tekkaya from the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction (IUL) at TU Dortmund University: The mechanical engineer was honored in May with the SME Gold Medal by the North American Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) for his services to manufacturing engineering. The SME Gold Medal is one of the professional association’s annual International Honor Awards and recognizes outstanding achievements in technical communication in manufacturing engineering in the form of publications, technical writings or lectures.

Prof. Tekkaya has headed the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction at TU Dortmund University since 2007. He is currently the site spokesman for the CRC/Transregio 188 “Damage Controlled Forming Processes” (TRR 188). In 2011, he also initiated the English-taught degree program Master of Manufacturing Technology (MMT) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on the fundamentals and technologies behind new types of forming processes as well as material characterization for modeling plastic deformations. Prof. Tekkaya is a member of the Board of Trustees of the German Research Association for Steel Application (FOSTA) and an elected fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering, CIRP.

Founded 90 years ago, the SME is a professional association of professionals, educators and students committed to promoting and supporting the manufacturing industry. It has set itself the goal of promoting innovation and growth in the industry by distributing technologies, training professionals and expanding networks. Since the 1950s, the SME International Honor Awards have been used to recognize experts for their significant contributions to manufacturing in the fields of manufacturing technologies and processes, technical publications, education, research and management.
