The City Learning Space is located in the former telecommunications office, also known as "Telekom building", at the end of the pedestrian zone “Westenhellweg”, in the immediate vicinity of the U-Tower (“Dortmunder U”). The Learning Space is on the third floor (i.e., the German second floor), and the visiting address is Westenhellweg 127. There are two elevators, so the space is accessible for wheelchair users. The subway station “Westentor”, where lines U43 and U44 stop, is in the immediate vicinity. Dortmund Main Station is also only about 600 meters away and can be reached in around 10 minutes on foot. Because of its central location, the Learning Space is well connected to public transport, including in the evenings and on the weekend. In addition, there are various restaurants and stores nearby.
With its 160 learning workstations, the City Learning Space also complements the Co-Learning Spaces on campus that the university has set up before the start of the construction phase of the new Central Library. The student status is checked at the entrance on the third floor (i.e., the German second floor) to control access to the space. Students can present their student ID card or their CampusID on the TU App. The City Learning Space is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The City Learning Space was well received during its opening week: On average, more than 50 learning workstations were occupied, and in the afternoons an average of up to 100 students were studying at the City Learning Space. At peak times during the first Sunday, 151 of the 160 workstations were in use. During the first seven days, an average of over 25 students used the learning space after 9 p.m.
