Research Profile of TU Dortmund University

TU Dortmund University is innovative and strong in all research disciplines. Numerous research awards and prizes, around 1,100 third-party funded projects, international cooperations and large collaborative projects such as two Clusters of Excellence and 9 Collaborative Research Centers are proof of the research success of all of the University’s departments.

The research strength of TU Dortmund University is particularly distinguished in its five profile areas, in which the University has achieved outstanding international success beyond disciplinary boundaries:

TU Dortmund University has strong partners: Four affiliated institutes from the Leibniz Association and the Fraunhofer Society, a Max Planck Institute, the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences provide a strong environment for successful research in Dortmund. Moreover, in the University Alliance Ruhr, the Universities of Dortmund, Bochum and Duisburg-Essen work together and share synergies in research and teaching. Complementing local engagement, TU Dortmund University maintains a strong international network of renowned partner universities and research facilities.

TU Dortmund University is effective in the transfer of knowledge: it integrates the public in science and research and, as a multiple award-winning start-up university, supports the transfer into application. The neighboring Dortmund Technology Park is one of the largest and most successful in Europe. The INVITE research center, together with Bayer AG and Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, combines basic research and industrial expertise.
