Where does inflation actually come from, how does the German energy market work, and what could the future of retirement provision look like?

Do you want to explain economic topics in an understandable way and convey them journalistically so that many people can participate in the discourse?

Would you like to combine the fields of journalism and economics in your studies?

In this degree program, students work with topics such as:

  • journalistic content: e.g., journalistic formats, data journalism, research, media law, media ethics, journalism studies
  • economic content: e.g., competition policy, mathematics, statistics, microeconomics, business cycle and growth, employment theory and labor
  • journalistic training in the teaching newsroom in video, audio, digital, and writing
  • integrated one-year traineeship in a journalistic newsroom during the 7th and 8th semester

Anything to do before the studies?

Admission requirement is a six-week journalistic internship. The goal of the internship is to become familiar with recurring journalistic basic routines and to develop a fundamental understanding of the public role of journalism. Internships in the editorial office of an advertising paper, a PR or media agency, press offices, or in non-journalistic media and production companies will not be recognized.

What can I expect during my studies?

The program is organized into a series of modules designed to build on one another throughout your studies. Students are encouraged to follow the recommended study plan, which outlines the modules assigned to each semester.

  • in business journalism (e.g., in the editorial departments of national daily or weekly newspapers and business journals, with political news and business magazines or on the economics and politics desks of public broadcasters)
  • in specialist areas of economic policy journalism
  • in public relations for institutions with an economic policy focus (such as public authorities, national and regional governments, associations and organizations, chambers of industry and commerce, economic research institutes, banks, financial institutions and the insurance sector)
