How to: Apply to College

Presentation on How to Start College Stress-Free

How do I actually apply to college? The new online event organized by the talent scouting program addressed this question to help high school students feel more confident about the application process.

The presentation on June 3 covered the search for suitable college spots, the admission requirements for various degree programs, the significance of the Numerus Clausus (NC), and important deadlines and dates in the application process. In addition, the differences between applying and enrolling were explained. A special focus was placed on the hochschulstart.de platform. Here, the individual steps of the application process, the prioritization of program preferences, and key contacts and support services were presented.

The goal of the event was to provide participants with a general overview of the application process and to clearly explain key terms, procedures, and deadlines. In particular, the students were intended to gain confidence in navigating the application process via hochschulstart.de and to learn what steps they can expect and what they should pay attention to along the way.

During the subsequent discussion, questions were asked in particular about prioritizing course preferences via hochschulstart.de. It was explained that the purpose of prioritization is to allocate university spots fairly and in accordance with each applicant’s individual preferences.

At the end of the event, the participants’ positive response was evident—in typical online event fashion—through numerous “thumbs-up” reactions as well as several appreciative comments in the chat. Many students said that the event had been very helpful to them. For further or individual questions, the Talent Scouts will, of course, continue to be available to students as points of contact.
