My Journey – Your Opportunity

A Lively Discussion on the Topic of Teacher Education

When all the cameras are on during an online event, it’s a clear sign that there’s a lot of interest. And so the discussion among participants at “My Path – Your Opportunity” was correspondingly lively.

During the online event, Assiba, a teacher at a vocational college, and Helen, a teacher at a high school, shared their very personal journeys to college and into the teaching profession. Tommy, a student teacher, provided insight into his studies at TU Dortmund University and described what his daily life as a student teacher is like. This was complemented by Serkan from talents4teachers, who explained how the teacher education programs differ at the partner universities in Duisburg/Essen, Bochum, and Dortmund.

During the speed-dating session, the students were able to ask the speakers their questions directly. Topics included common doubts, prejudices about the teaching profession, and what daily life as a student actually looks like. There was also plenty of information about various subjects and the fact that it’s completely normal to change your mind during the course of your studies.

One participant aptly summed up the event at the end: Even though there may be certain preconceptions about the teaching profession, you should have the courage to follow your own interests—especially if you’re truly passionate about something.
