Researchers with family responsibilities face special challenges – not only in times of pandemic. They have to fulfill multiple expectations at work and at home, from supervisors, students, and family. If they have also just moved to Dortmund, there is often a lack of helpful network structures.
Therefore, the Graduate Center of TU Dortmund University and Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts have created the Shared Time “Family & Research”. Sessions will take place twice a year. The format provides practical and academic impulses surrounding questions of compatibility of family and career and serves as a platform for parents in research to connect and build networks of support.
On 29 June 2021, the specific topic will be “Family-Friendly Work Cultures & Leadership”.
What constitutes family-conscious leadership? What can researchers look out for as a (future) manager? How can they sensitize their professor to that topic?
After a brief introduction by Jeannette Kratz, Family Service TU Dortmund, Prof. Anja Haftmann and Prof. Paul Czodrowski will provide insights into the practice of leadership in academia (and beyond). They will also talk about combining academic career and family life.
