Diversity in research and teaching

TU Dortmund University is convinced that adequate solutions for future issues also require multi-perspective and diverse approaches. For this reason, the increased consideration of diversity aspects in research and teaching is anchored in important strategic processes relating to these core dimensions of the university.

The aim of TU Dortmund University's research strategy is to do justice to social heterogeneity and the associated participation in research. The scientific consideration of gender and other aspects of diversity is becoming increasingly important for third-party funding and the international competitiveness of excellent and socially relevant research.

At the same time, TU Dortmund University emphasizes in its"Mission Statement for Good Teaching" that students and teaching staff at TU Dortmund University reflect a great deal of social diversity with their biographies, interests, skills and experiences. In a science that relies on openness and discourse, this diversity represents a fundamental resource for individual and collaborative learning.
A low-discrimination, barrier-free and diversity-sensitive environment offers the best possible learning conditions.

Gender and diversity are not equally important as research-inherent proposal aspects for every project, and the significance of these dimensions varies depending on the research context, topic and methods. On the DFG website you will find a checklist and examples from various disciplines:
