TU Dortmund University Clinches Overall Victory for Seventh Time

TU Dortmund University retains its first place in Dortmund’s STADTRADELN cycling competition: With 552 participants cycling 101,759 kilometers, the university was once again the overall winner. The university thus successfully defended its title and won the competition for the seventh time in a row. At the same time, the team set a new record as the largest one in the history of the cycling competition.

At an official prize ceremony, the City of Dortmund honored the most successful teams and particularly active participants. Christoph Edeler, Head of University Sports at TU Dortmund University and responsible for organizing its participation in the competition, accepted the prize on its behalf.

He was accompanied by other members of TU Dortmund University who substantially contributed to its success. Alexa Fischer racked up 1,175 kilometers, making her the university’s top female cyclist. With an impressive 2,456.7 kilometers, Thomas Weyer achieved the best in-house result among the men. Also present at the prize ceremony was Dr. Timm Treskatis. He represented the Math team, which logged 10,076.5 kilometers, the most of any of the university’s teams.

On 16 July, University Sports honored the most active participants at an in-house prize ceremony. Apart from the most successful individual cyclists, ten other participants were drawn by lot and awarded non-cash prizes. “Being the overall winner once again is an excellent team achievement and shows just how important the STADTRADELN cycling competition has meanwhile become at TU Dortmund University. I’m particularly pleased that we were able to defend our title and win the competition for the seventh time in a row. This also motivates us to inspire even more students and staff to take up cycling as a sustainable means of transport,” says Christoph Edeler.

Competition promotes sustainable mobility

Over the past years, the STADTRADELN cycling competition has become an established event in the university’s calendar. The aim is to further encourage cycling at TU Dortmund University in the long term, promote sustainable mobility in everyday university life and inspire as many university members as possible to take up cycling. This renewed success is impressive evidence of the potential that lies within the university community.

In total, 369 teams from schools, companies, clubs, families and other organizations took part in the “STADTRADELN 2026” cycling competition in Dortmund. From 3 to 23 May, the participants racked up kilometers together in support of climate action, health and sustainable mobility.
