Getting a taste of university life, attending lectures, and visiting laboratories – all this is possible for school students on 21 and 22 January 2026 as part of the Dortmund University Days. TU Dortmund University will also present its degree programs in more than 150 events across its 17 departments and provide advice on topics related to studying.

Nationwide, universities offer more than 10,000 bachelor’s programs; in North Rhine-Westphalia alone there are around 2,400 bachelor’s programs. Therefore, many high school students face the question: What on earth should I study? To help them with orientation, the universities in Dortmund are offering a comprehensive program for prospective students on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, and Thursday, 22 January 2026, giving them insights into everyday student life.

Over 150 Events at TU Dortmund University

In information sessions, prospective students can get to know the diverse range of degree programs at TU Dortmund University – from the natural and engineering sciences to the humanities and social sciences. They can attend lectures, laboratory tours, and workshops offered by the 17 departments and learn about subsequent career opportunities. In addition, they have the chance to receive individual advice in consultation hours, explore the university during campus tours, and exchange ideas with students.

For general study orientation, the Central Student Advisory Service of TU Dortmund University, together with Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts (FH Dortmund), hosts the event “Informieren geht über Studieren. Wege zum passenden Studiengang?” (“The proof is in the studying. Paths to the Right Degree Program?”) for school students. In addition, the Talent Scouting teams of both universities provide information about the wide range of scholarship opportunities and explain how to apply for a scholarship. The Dortmund Competence Center for Teacher Education & Research (DoKoLL) advises on teacher training programs for all five types of schools. The Division of Disability and Studies (DoBuS), the University Library, the Hybrid Learning Center (HyLeC), and Office of University Sports also present their offerings in workshops and interactive sessions.

Preparation Assistance and Parents’ Evening

On Wednesday, 14 January 2026, at 3 p.m., interested high school students can take part in a short Zoom introducation by the Central Student Advisory Servic to learn how best to prepare for visiting the Dortmund University Days. For interested parents, a Parent's Evening with a Market of Possibilities will also be held on Monday, 19 January 2026, starting at 6 p.m. at Dortmund City Hall. Advisors from the universities, the Employment Agency, and the Association for Student Affairs will answer questions on all aspects of studying, for example on financing and applications.

About the University Days

The Dortmund University Days have been held since 2011 and emerged from close networking between the Regional Education Office, Dortmund schools, and the city’s universities. They are an important building block in the transition from school to university. They support school students in their study decisions and provide information about the offerings of Dortmund’s universities. Students can be excused from classes to participate, and often school classes attend together. In view of the abundance of study options, it is important for school students to obtain early and comprehensive information about the various study programs and admission requirements before making their decision.
