As a member of the Senate of the German Research Foundation (DFG), Professor Christian Rehtanz from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology will in future contribute to shaping Germany’s research and funding landscape.
At the end of June, the General Assembly of the German Research Foundation (DFG) elected Professor Christian Rehtanz from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at TU Dortmund University as a new member of its Senate. Professor Rehtanz has already made an active contribution to the foundation for many years, having been an elected member of the Review Board for “Electrical Engineering and Information Technology” for two terms of office since April 2016. As a member of the Senate, Christian Rehtanz, Professor for Energy Systems, Energy Efficiency and Energy Economics, now has a further opportunity to deliver input that will help to shape Germany’s research and funding landscape.

“I think it’s very important for researchers to make an active contribution to the German Research Foundation in order to further develop the high quality standards of Germany’s research landscape for the future,” says Professor Rehtanz. The Senate of the German Research Foundation – the central self-governing research funding organization in Germany and its largest – is responsible for all major research funding decisions prior to the individual funding decision, as well as for all major decisions on the design of the review, evaluation and decision process. It also decides which Review Boards to form and how they are structured. The Senate has a total of 39 members, of whom 36 are elected for three years on the basis of a rolling system. In addition, the presidents of the German Rectors’ Conference, the Union of the German academies of Sciences and Humanities and the Max Planck Society are members of the Senate by virtue of their office.
