Since winter semester 2024/25, the Entrepreneurship Certificate has offered students an additional qualification to acquire the fundamentals of entrepreneurial thinking and action, regardless of their chosen field of study. By the end of the first semester, there was already a successful graduate: Philipp Stehr, a student of economics, received the certificate from Chancellor Markus Neuhaus in the new premises of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Transfer (CET).

As a board member of CET, Markus Neuhaus presented the certificate. “I am delighted that we were able to establish the Entrepreneurship Certificate as a fantastic program at CET , enabling students to gain additional entrepreneurial skills. The certificate complements the diverse range of continuing education offerings in the field of entrepreneurship,” said the Chancellor.

Philipp Stehr, a Bachelor’s student in the Department of Business and Economics, recommends the program: “The certificate is suitable for both students who want to get a taste of entrepreneurship and for those who are more advanced. The content is taught in a practical manner, the additional effort is manageable, and above all, it is a lot of fun.” One doesn’t necessarily have to aim for founding a company to benefit from it. Philipp Stehr had once considered starting his own business, but is aiming for a career in consulting first.

The Entrepreneurship Certificate enables students to acquire an additional qualification alongside their studies to prepare for their professional future. The program equips students with the necessary skills to find creative solutions to pressing societal issues such as the energy transition or climate protection, or to start their own business.

Both Bachelor’s and Master’s students as well as doctoral candidates enrolled at TU Dortmund University can enroll in the program. The certificate consists of three modules. The interdisciplinary foundational module offers comprehensive insights into entrepreneurial practice and the start-up world. It is supplemented by CET workshops, which introduce practical methods, processes, and tools. Individual interests, such as innovation management or social entrepreneurship, can be expanded upon in advanced modules, which form the third part of the qualification program. Participants receive the certificate once they achieve at least 15 credit points across all three modules.

Interested students can still join for the summer semester 2025. The program is coordinated by the CET and open for participation. For some courses, students have to register before the lecture period begins.
