Each month, 233 committed and high-achieving students at TU Dortmund University receive financial support from the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship program. At the traditional scholarship ceremony on 26 February at the Westfälischer Industrieklub, a forum for prominent figures from industry, science, culture and society, the scholarship holders were able to meet their sponsors in person and made use of the occasion to exchange ideas and network. During the ceremony, computer science student Antonia van Ophuysen was also awarded the Soroptimist Award for her outstanding accomplishments.

TU Dortmund University first introduced the Deutschlandstipendium as a source of funding for students in the 2011/2012 winter semester. Within this program, businesses and private individuals sponsor high-achieving and talented students. In the current funding year 2025/26, 59 sponsors are financing 233 scholarships. Compared to the previous year, TU Dortmund University has been able to attract five new donors. Other sponsors have increased the number of scholarships they are making available. Among the largest sponsors are the Sparkasse Dortmund savings bank, several foundations (Wilo-Foundation, Bernd Jochheim-Stiftung, RAG-Stiftung), the Association of Friends of TU Dortmund University, Alumni der Informatik Dortmund (computer science alumni of TU Dortmund University), and the insurance company Leue & Nill GmbH & Co. KG.

Deutschlandstipendium scholarship holders receive €300 per month for at least two semesters, of which half is financed by the Federal Government and half by private sponsors from industry, foundations and society. Recipients are selected on the basis of their outstanding academic achievements and commitment beyond their studies, for example in social projects. The selection process also takes particular social, family or personal circumstances into consideration.

Award for highly dedicated student

In addition, the Soroptimist Award was conferred on Antonia van Ophuysen from the Department of Computer Science during the scholarship ceremony. Julia Meyer-Kleinmann, President of Soroptimist International Club Dortmund, commended her outstanding accomplishments in her computer science studies and her voluntary work, especially her commitment to sustainability at TU Dortmund University and her support for women in STEM subjects. Among her other activities, during her Bachelor’s degree Antonia van Ophuysen played an active role as the Sustainability and Mobility Officer of the General Student Committee and also served on the university’s Senate and Student Parliament, on the Department Council and the Sustainability Commission of the Department of Computer Science. In addition, she was active as a mentor in the project MinTU – Mädchen in die TU Dortmund, an initiative aimed at encouraging female school leavers to study STEM subjects at TU Dortmund University.
