The exhibition can be visited at the Dortmunder U until June 28.
On the university floor of TU Dortmund University at the Dortmunder U, a 24-by-2.60-meter wall drawing has been created, on which Prof. Bettina van Haaren and Wolfgang Folmer from the Department of Art and Material Culture have been working since mid-April. This is complemented by additional drawings, watercolors, and video works by the two artists. The exhibition “Encapsulation of the Beat” is on display at the Dortmund U until 28 June. Admission is free.

The works of Bettina van Haaren and Wolfgang Folmer reflect the confusing image of a reality animated by the heterogeneous, the contradictory, the unreasonable, the witty, and the trivial. As a result, extremely different levels of content intertwine. In their works, the world appears torn or frayed, accordingly characterized by instability and leaps. They depict a landscape with strong vortices, interspersed with fragments, remnants, and chaos.

Bettina van Haaren is a painter, draftswoman, and printmaker. She studied at the Mainz University of Fine Arts from 1981 to 1987. Since 2000, she has been Professor of Drawing and Printmaking at TU Dortmund University. Her work has been shown in almost 100 solo and 150 group exhibitions in Europe, the USA, New Zealand, Japan, and China. 27 monographic publications about her have been published, and she has received numerous awards and scholarships.

Wolfgang Folmer works across media in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, and video. He studied at the Stuttgart State Academy of Fine Arts and has been an artistic assistant at the Department of Art and Material Culture at TU Dortmund University since 2013. Folmer has exhibited nationally and internationally and has received awards and scholarships in Sweden, Spain, the USA, Argentina, and China.
