Study preparation

When new students arrive at TU Dortmund University, Talent Scouts help them to find their way around the university world. They support students so that they quickly feel part of the university and can act confidently and independently.
Please note that alle events are offered in german only.
Workshop: Dos and don'ts when starting your studies
Students who have just started their studies and still feel unsure or need better orientation in the university system learn how to find their way around and deal with the challenges in this workshop. The Talent Scouting team will present the dos and don'ts of everyday life at university. This will be illustrated with small exercises on the "university tools of the trade". The workshop also offers students a place where they can talk about difficulties and obstacles they encountered at the beginning of their studies. Current dates can be found in our calendar of events.
Lecture: Scientific work
The two-hour lecture introduces the basics of academic writing and provides practical tips for getting started with academic writing - for example on structuring, time planning, research and correct citation. In addition, typical initial problems are identified and support services offered by the TU are presented. It is aimed at all students, especially first semester students and those preparing an academic paper. Registration is not required.
Workshop: Ready to study
Here, pupils and students who are the first in their family to study will find out what to expect at university, how to prepare well for the start of their studies and how to deal with doubts - both their own and those around them. In the workshop, participants have the opportunity to exchange ideas with other first-year students and find out how they can shape their very own path into the university world.
