Two degree programs at TU Dortmund University earn top marks: Chemical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
According to a nationwide survey for the CHE University Ranking, those studying Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at TU Dortmund University are particularly satisfied with their choice of program. In comparison with other locations, the two degree programs score particularly well in the category “Satisfaction with the General Study Situation”: With grades of 1.8 and 1.9, TU Dortmund University ranks among the top group in both these two subjects.

The “Chemical Engineering” degree program at TU Dortmund University can pride itself on being “Best in Class” nationwide, as it is the only one of its kind to number among the top group in three of the four most important categories in the CHE Ranking. The students interviewed are satisfied not only with the general study situation but also in particular with teaching. In addition, the fact check yields a high score for the support available to students at the start of their studies. “The efforts made by the Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering in recent years to improve study conditions have been worthwhile,” says the department’s dean, Professor Stephan Lütz. During the coronavirus pandemic, for example, a line-up of experienced fellow students welcomed new students online and accompanied them. Self-assessment prior to enrollment ensures that interests and program contents match. In career guidance too, the department – together with the active alumni association and booster club – has built up comprehensive services for students in recent years. Interesting career fields are open to graduates: They can conduct research into the development of new drugs, for example, or design processes for sustainable production. Together with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), TU Dortmund University is one of the largest training centers for chemical engineering and applied chemistry in Germany.

Employers too appreciate electrical engineering training at TU Dortmund University

Of the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia, TU Dortmund University is the only one for the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology degree program that numbers among the top group in two of the four most important categories. In addition to satisfaction with the general study situation, here too it is the broad support available to students at the start of their studies. Very good marks were also awarded for various sub-points, such as embedding of digital teaching elements, exam organization and equipment in the practical labs. “But it’s not only our students who are satisfied; employers too appreciate electrical engineering training at TU Dortmund University,” adds Professor Martin Pfost, Dean of Studies at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Just recently, the university once again occupied eighth place nationwide in the WirtschaftsWoche ranking and came second in North Rhine-Westphalia after RWTH Aachen University. In that survey, 500 corporate HR managers were asked from which universities they prefer to recruit graduates.
