The ExaBase portal has many advantages for both students and examiners.
Students at TU Dortmund University are now able to submit their bachelor’s and master’s theses online. The University’s IT and Media Center (ITMC), in cooperation with the faculties and the Department of Student Services, has developed the University’s own ExaBase portal for this purpose.

At the end of every degree there is the thesis. Whether bachelor’s or master’s, up until now students had to print and bind two or three copies of their thesis and then make sure to submit them on time. This procedure is very time-consuming, costs students money and devours resources. That is why the ITMC and the Department of Student Services have developed the ExaBase online portal, which makes it easier for students to hand in their theses: These can now be submitted in digital form.

Examiners will also profit from this new submission procedure. They can access theses independently of where they are. In addition, printed versions of lengthy theses no longer need to be sent backwards and forwards. If examiners want a printed copy nonetheless, TU Dortmund University will provide them with one upon request.

From pilot phase to regular operation

ExaBase was tested from May onwards in a pilot phase lasting several months to gather experience and eliminate possible errors. “As planned, ExaBase has been in regular operation since 01.10.2019,” says Dirk Ogermann, Head of the Department of Student Services.
