From now on, the three universities of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) will cooperate with BRYCK, a start-up and innovation hub based in Essen. The aim is to further strengthen start-up activities in the Ruhr region. To launch the cooperation, the Presidents of the UA Ruhr universities and representatives of BRYCK and the RAG-Stiftung signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” in Essen in mid-September.

The start-up and innovation hub BRYCK, which was initiated by the RAG-Stiftung at the beginning of 2022 and is based in Essen, brings together founders, investors, researchers and companies in its network. With its programs, the hub has already supported more than 50 start-ups in the fields of energy, health, livable cities and hydrogen. From now on, students from TU Dortmund University, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) and the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) can also take advantage of the activities and events designed to get them excited about start-up projects and entrepreneurial thinking.

“The cooperation gives students and start-ups even broader access to a network of investors and established companies,” emphasizes TU President Prof. Manfred Bayer. “In cooperation with the RAG-Stiftung and BRYCK, UA Ruhr strives to further intensify start-up activities in the Ruhr region and strengthen the start-up ecosystem.” In recent years, the “Excellence Start-up Centers.NRW” at the universities have already achieved considerable success in the area of research-based spin-offs. The new cooperation is now intended to specifically supplement the offers for prospective founders and to further expand networking within the UA Ruhr.

As one of the first joint measures, BRYCK and the UA Ruhr agreed to exchange information on start-up projects on an ongoing basis. In the future, the participating universities will inform students interested in founding a company about BRYCK's programs and offers. In addition, a joint annual start-up event is planned.
