On 9 August, TU Dortmund University officially welcomed its new apprentices.
In August 2024, a total of 36 young women and men began their apprenticeship at TU Dortmund University in eleven different professions. During an introductory week, they got to know the university as an employer. Around 6,600 employees in administration and departments ensure the best possible conditions for teaching and research. As one of the largest apprenticeship companies in the city, TU Dortmund University also offers a variety of opportunities for apprentices.

From chemical laboratory assistants to media designers to materials testers – TU Dortmund University currently trains in 17 professions. Including the 36 new apprentices, up to 130 apprentices are currently employed at the university. This makes TU Dortmund University one of the largest apprenticeship companies in the city. Apprentices benefit from well-planned instruction and intensive supervision by a total of 31 trainers. After completing their training, many new professionals have the chance to continue working at TU Dortmund University.

To ensure an optimal start to their training, TU Dortmund University organizes an introductory week for new apprentices every year. On the second day of work this year, the apprentices and trainers went on a three-day introductory trip to Hachen. In addition to team-building activities, geocaching was also on the agenda. Back at TU Dortmund University, the university’s structures and processes were thoroughly introduced: health, occupational safety, leave applications, PausenExpress, and sports offerings – important components to navigate everyday work life and choose the right options from the wide range available.

The Training Professions

The 36 young women and men are being trained in these eleven professions: chemical laboratory assistants, electronics technicians for devices and systems, electronics technicians for industrial engineering, IT specialists for system integration, industrial mechanics, cutting machine operators, technical product designers, materials testers, office management clerks, media designers for image and sound, or sports and fitness clerks.

Apprenticeship Positions 2025

For the coming year, TU Dortmund University is again looking for new apprentices: Over 30 positions are available at the university. Applications can be submitted from 14 October to 1 December 2024.
