Assistance for Students and Researchers
Since the beginning of the war of aggression against Ukraine, comprehensive support structures have been established - for Ukrainian and Russian students and researchers who are already at TU Dortmund University, as well as for refugees who are welcomed on campus and in the city.
There are currently 80 students from Ukraine and 150 students from the Russian Federation enrolled at TU Dortmund University. Since March, a one-time emergency aid of up to 500 euros has been provided to support those of them who have run into financial difficulties due to the current situation. To date, 17 students have received a payment from the aid fund provided by the Society of Friends from donations. TU students are also involved in helping refugees themselves: they support a welcome meeting for Ukrainian mothers and their children initiated by the Rotary Club Dortmund-Romberg together with the KSF Vita association.
The International Affairs Department offers comprehensive assistance to refugees who are interested in studying or doing research. The Clearing House is the first point of contact for prospective students. The Welcome Services provide comprehensive assistance in planning and implementing a research stay. Scientists who have previously conducted research in Ukraine are cordially invited to apply as visiting researchers. Many faculties have agreed to host guests. The rectorate provides funds to give start-up financing to refugee scientists. So far, 50 inquiries from Ukrainian and Russian scientists have been received; about twelve of them have been granted a temporary guest stay.
