Vortrag von Gambrinus Fellow Dr. Oladimeji B. Olalusi über europäische Standards im Bauwesen
- Vortrag
Ensuring adequate shear capacity in bridges and buildings is a main aim of structural design. However, shear capacity prediction is complicated, and predictions contain high bias and uncertainty. The European standards (Eurocodes) are recognised as advanced, wholly integrated set of structural codes specifying how structural design should be conducted within the European Union (EU). The Eurocode 2 (EN 1992-1-1: Design of concrete structures) design provisions for stirrup reinforced concrete beam is based on the Variable Strut Inclination Method (VSIM). Recent studies have shown that the best estimate shear strength predictions of the operational Eurocode 2 VSIM underestimate shear capacity for lightly reinforced beams and, conversely overestimates shear capacity for heavily reinforced beams. Given this, sufficient safety performance of the design formulation should be confirmed at high levels of stirrup reinforcement, and over conservatism at low stirrup reinforcement is not ideal. In this lecture, we will discuss the safety performance of the Eurocode 2 shear design formulation using the principles of structural reliability. Finally, reliability informed insights into the sufficiency and limitation of the EN 1992-1-1 VSIM standardized design will be shared.
