Gender identity and sexual orientation

Gender and sexual diversity is part of our campus life. People of all gender identities and sexual orientations are welcome at TU Dortmund University.

Sexual orientation refers to the genders of the people to whom a person feels attracted.
Gender identity is about the question of whether a person identifies with their assigned gender, whether it describes them appropriately and adequately.
Non-binary*, trans* and inter* people can therefore be just as homo-, bi-, pan-, a- or heterosexual as cis* people. Gender identity says nothing about sexual orientation.

The signs LSBTIAQ+ stand for self-designations within sexual and gender diversity:
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexualand queer.
The + means that sexual orientations and gender identities are seen as a non-exhaustive spectrum.
