Diversity
Diversity is a defining characteristic of universities. Science, research and teaching thrive on the diversity of perspectives and questions. People of different genders, languages, social and cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, with or without disabilities and chronic illnesses come together on campus, all of whom bring different experiences and skills to the table.
For us, diversity is a social reality and an enrichment. At the same time, we are also aware of exclusionary structures and inequalities.
At TU Dortmund University, diversity mainstreaming aims to assess the impact of all decisions on the diverse members of the university and to incorporate their relevant concerns into all regular and standard processes. In the long term, this approach should lead to a sustainable cultural change and a university for all.
This includes the implementation of equity concerns and anti-discrimination laws, unbiased recruitment for research, teaching, studies, administration and technology as well as the reflection and discursive penetration of internal university procedures and processes. Many different actors are working on this throughout the university.
