The Campusradio Prize of the Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the most important awards for radio makers in university broadcasting. eldoradio*, the campus radio of Dortmund’s universities, received prizes this year in two categories. Sophia Buschhorn and Lennart Thomas were each honored with a trophy and a cash prize of €1,250. The award ceremony took place during Campusradio Day 2025 in Düsseldorf.

Journalism student Sophia Buschhorn won in the category “Best Contribution under Four Minutes” with a piece on the subject of femicide. Under the title “When women are killed because they are women”, she reported on a femicide that shook Dortmund, showing the impact such crimes have on a city and its people. In its statement, the jury emphasized that Buschhorn succeeded in telling the story sensitively and with journalistic precision: “With impressive original sound bites and an atmospheric soundscape, the author manages to be very close to the people without appearing voyeuristic. The result is radio that moves, enlightens, and demands responsibility – locally rooted, yet of global relevance.”

For his colleague conversation about the so-called “Rocktutorium”, journalism student Lennart Thomas received the prize in the University category. The jury praised that he conveyed the atmosphere of the course, in which students make music together in just a few weeks, in a relaxed, confident, and charming way. He deliberately used original sound bites to inspire listeners to the topic in a short time.
