The CET’s Entrepreneurship Certificate offers students an additional qualification that they can complete alongside their studies to acquire the basics of entrepreneurial thinking and action, regardless of their chosen field of study. The certificate aims to prepare students for their future professional lives and provide them with the necessary skills to find creative solutions to societal problems or start their own business. The certificate program consists of three modules totaling 15 credit points. The lecture series “Entrepreneurship in Practice” at the Department of Business and Economics forms the basis of the interdisciplinary foundational module. The lecture and the accompanying exercise provide insights into entrepreneurial practice and the start-up world. In the winter semester 2024/25, the lecture starts on 10 October and takes place every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. Additionally, participants can deepen their knowledge in CET workshops and events from a dynamic module catalog, setting individual focuses according to their interests. The diverse offerings include courses on topics such as marketing, design thinking, digitalization and technology, or women and diversity in business, preparing students for various challenges in the working world. Both Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral students at TU Dortmund University can enroll in the program. Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate. For some modules, registration is required before the start of the lecture period.
From Sustainability to Literary Education: A Diverse Certificate Program for Students
In addition, there are ten other certificate programs at TU Dortmund University. Since the winter semester of 2021/22, the university has been offering the “studium oecologicum.” This is a certificate that TU students can complete as an additional qualification during their bachelor’s or master’s studies to acquire interdisciplinary competencies on the topic of sustainability beyond their own field. To do this, they must complete courses totaling ten credit points from three modules (basic module, subject-specific, and non-subject-specific areas). The interdisciplinary public lecture series “Climate: Change, Values, Science” from the Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering forms the basic module. Here, the technical foundations are laid, and perspectives from different disciplines are conveyed. In the winter semester of 2024/25, the lecture series will start on Friday, 11 October, and will take place digitally every Friday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Subsequently, students can delve deeper into subject-specific issues in the five advanced modules: Education, Society, Science and Technology, Space and Construction, and Economics.
The “Data Literacy“ certificate focuses on proficient data handling. Since the winter semester of 2020/21, TU students can acquire cross-disciplinary competencies in the Data Competence Network (DaCoNet) certificate program, such as quantitative research, critical data handling, or ethical aspects. A total of at least 10 credit points must be earned in two compulsory modules and two elective modules. The DaCoNet courses “Introduction to Data Literacy” and “Data Literacy - Elementary Data Understanding” will be held asynchronously in the winter semester of 2024/25 and can also be credited to the Studium Fundamentale.
Other certificate programs include “Studium International”, which focuses on intercultural competencies and international exchange, training as a writing consultant, the “Digital Technology Management” program aimed at students of mathematical, technical, and engineering courses, and the senior citizen study program. For teaching students, there are four different certificates offered: “ISoLDE: Inclusion - Play - Digital Media,” Literary Education, German as a Foreign Language/German as a Second Language, and Bilingual Learning and Teaching.
