TU Dortmund University – a University with a Unique Profile

With 16 faculties ranging from science and engineering to social sciences and cultural studies, the university currently has near to 34,600 students and 6,200 members of staff, including 300 professors. There are about 80 degree programs to choose from, some classic, some innovative, and some even unique to this university. We also offer a comprehensive program of teacher training for all types of school. All our scientific disciplines share a common university spirit in which interdisciplinarity, communication and cooperation are not only taught, but are actively lived by. This interactive culture creates a supportive environment that sparks technological innovation and drives advances in methods and knowledge. Research at TU Dortmund University is particularly renowned for its four profile areas: Production and Logistics, Chemical Biology and Biotechnology, Modeling, Simulation and Optimization of Complex Processes and Systems and Youth, School and Education Research, in which the university celebrates research successes, beyond disciplinary limits, and at an outstanding international level.

Ranked No. 4 among Germany's Young Universities

In QS's "Top 50 under 50" of 2016, TU Dortmund University ranks fourth among recently founded universities in Germany, and first in the state of North Rhine Westphalia. The ranking is based on a comparison of universities that are less than 50 years old. Worldwide, TU Dortmund University ranks between 70 and 80. Only seven of Germany’s 44 young universities made the top 100. The ranking assesses universities around the world on their reputation, research performance and student-teacher ratios.


50-year Anniversary Film of TU Dortmund University

On 16 December 2018, TU Dortmund University celebrates its 50th anniversary. The anniversary film presents the university, then as now, as a motor for change and progress.
