Associated Research Institutes

Außenaufnahme des Gebäudes, in dem sich das IML befindetResearch at TU Dortmund University takes place in an inspiring environment. Two Fraunhofer institutes and one Max Planck institute are located close to the university campus. Cooperation between the institutes and the university is regulated by formal cooperation agreements. In some instances, professors hold joint chairs at the university and at the associated research institutes. Altogether, seven institutes are associated with TU Dortmund University:

  1. Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) (in German only): BAuA conducts research and development in the field of safety and health at work, promotes the transfer of knowledge into practice, advises policymakers and carries out statutory tasks – under hazardous substances legislation, in product safety and with the health data archive.
  2. Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML): IML is Europe's top address for the development and application of new company-internal and external logistics Solutions.
  3. Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering (ISST) (in German only): ISST designs and develops IT solutions for distributed, complex and interacting IT systems for health management, logistics and industry.
  4. Research Institute for Regional and Urban Development (ILS): ILS, an associate Leibniz institute and member of the Johannes Rau Research Foundation NRW, issues policy advice based on its own basic research in spatial planning for new urbanization processes.
  5. INVITE GmbH: INVITE is a research joint venture between TU Dortmund University and Bayer.
  6. LogistikCampus (in German only): The areas of expertise in 'technical logistics' and 'information logistics' are concentrated on the LogistikCampus at TU Dortmund University. Together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML), an interdisciplinary research center for logistics in combination with scientific and technical know-how has been created.
  7. Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology (MPI): MPI is one of the world's leading research institutions in the biological sciences. Here research activities focus on fundamental biological processes such as cell division, signal transduction in cells and the mechanism of action of medically relevant biomolecules.
