Prof. Dr. Gerhard Schembecker

Professor Gerhard Schembecker has served as Vice President for Finance since 1 September 2020. In June 2026, he was re-elected for a second term in office.

He was appointed as Professor for Plant and Process Design at TU Dortmund University, his alma mater, in 2005. He was previously managing director in several international start-ups. Since 2020, in his capacity as Vice President, he has further developed TU Dortmund University’s criteria-based, needs-oriented budgeting system. As chairperson of the Research Transfer Advisory Board of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Transfer, he is also committed to fostering a culture of start-ups and spin-offs at TU Dortmund University and across the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr).

The Vice President Finance and Transfer is responsible for all general matters concerning the distribution of funds and budget planning at TU Dortmund University as well as those aspects of performance assessment of cross-departmental relevance. He is also concerned with knowledge transfer and start-up activities. The Vice President Finance and Transfer deputizes for the President in accordance with Section 3 of the Rules of Procedure pursuant to Section 18 (1) Sentence 2 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act.
