The Department of Physics offers the “International Master of Advanced Methods in Particle Physics” (IMAPP) program in cooperation with the University of Bologna in Italy and the University of Clermont Auvergne in France. The program is supported by internationally renowned partner institutions and leads to a joint degree from all three universities. The four-semester program is taught in English at all three locations.
“The program provides technical specialization in particle physics and thus offers significant advantages over conventional physics programs,” explains Prof. Kevin Kröninger, Dean of the Department of Physics. “For one, it allows students to gain valuable international experience. In addition, they will acquire skills that are in demand on the job market through comprehensive methodological methods. On top of that, the degree is an excellent starting point for a promising academic career, such as a subsequent doctorate.”
Promoting integration
The FGU has set itself the task of supporting this very kind of Franco-German program. Only programs that lead to a joint degree and significantly promote integration are selected for funding: Students become familiar with a variety of scientific teaching methods and immerse themselves in the culture of the partner country.
