Prof. Susanne Fengler Appointed to Academia Europaea

Prof. Susanne Fengler, Professor of International Journalism at TU Dortmund University, has been accepted into the renowned Academia Europaea (Academy of Europe). During this year’s academy conference in Barcelona in mid-October, she was welcomed by President Prof. Donald Dingwell into the circle of around 6,000 members, which also includes 88 Nobel Prize laureates.

As a European academy of sciences, the Academia Europaea promotes excellent scientific work across all disciplines and is committed to advancing scientific education for the benefit of society. In addition, the academy supports evidence-based policy-making in Europe as part of the European Commission’s scientific advisory system. Prof. Fengler is the fourth member of TU Dortmund University to be admitted to the Academy of Europe. The academy grants membership by invitation only folllowing a peer review process.

Susanne Fengler has been Professor of International Journalism at TU Dortmund University’s Institute of Journalism since 2008 and heads the Erich Brost Institute for International Journalism. She and her team conduct research on media freedom, foreign reporting, and disinformation – in Europe as well as in the Global South. Numerous EU projects, several academic awards, and two graduate colleges are among the milestones in the academic career of the Dortmund native.
