Ten international students are participating in the International Summer Program at the International Meeting Center, thus having the opportunity to get to know everyday university life in Dortmund.
In the second half of the summer semester 2024, ten international students from Brazil, China, and the USA are taking part in the International Summer Program (ISP). They are getting to know university life in Dortmund and are going to attend courses in the fields of Entrepreneurship, Engineering, and German & European Studies. On 1 June, the organizers welcomed the exchange students at the International Meeting Center (IBZ).

The International Summer Program at TU Dortmund University takes place during the regular lecture period. From early June to late July, this allows the participants to earn credits in English-language events, alongside their Dortmund peers. The international students also attend a German course and a cultural studies event that introduces them to German culture and politics. In addition, they can participate in a research project in one of the thematic focuses and explore Dortmund and the Ruhr area through a diverse excursion program

Prof. Walter Grünzweig and Prof. Sergio Lucia, along with Prof. Sascha Pöhlmann, who jointly lead the ISP, welcomed the participants at the IBZ. Prof. Grünzweig emphasized, “In times of multiple crises, it is particularly important that we promote international exchange and intercultural understanding.” Prof. Lucia introduced the city of Dortmund and the region as a good place for exchange stays. Prof. Grünzweig highlighted a special opportunity this year during the ISP, as both the European elections and the men’s football European Championship are taking place in Dortmund and in North Rhine-Westphalia: “Thus, the students can vividly experience various facets of the EU,” he said.

About the International Summer Program (ISP)

The ISP is taking place for the 21st time this year; it is an offer for students from partner universities of TU Dortmund University. In return, Dortmund students can study at the participating partner universities abroad without paying tuition fees. In addition to subject-specific courses or participation in a research project, participants also receive support through the “Dortmund Doubles” mentoring program. Outside the university, international students can look forward to a comprehensive leisure and excursion program. Academically, the ISP is organized by the Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering, the Department of Cultural Studies, and the Center for Entrepreneurship & Transfer (CET); administratively, it is accompanied by the International Office.
