International Master’s programs
Under the name “International Academy for German Engineering and Science” (IAGES), the University Alliance Ruhr – Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg-Essen – and Hochschule Düsseldorf – University of Applied Sciences (HSD) will also offer new degree programs there in the future, with the aim of securing skilled professionals in the following areas: energy system conversion, sustainability and digitalization. These programs are currently being developed by the Akademie der Ruhr-Universität in Bochum in close consultation with the partner universities. The aim is to interlink a practice-oriented academic education with the requirements of modern energy and industrial companies.
To this end, the Akademie der Ruhr-Universität has also signed a lease for new premises on the EUREF-Campus in Düsseldorf, where a unique educational concept is evolving: International Master’s programs with a strong practical focus offer the young professionals of tomorrow further training in a real-world laboratory geared to the energy transition. “By moving onto the EUREF-Campus, we are creating a new center for innovative, sustainable and practice-oriented further education in the middle of North Rhine-Westphalia,” said Dr. Yves Gensterblum, Managing Director of the Academy. “We are bringing science, business and politics together here to train the skilled workers who will actively shape the energy transition.”
Space for innovation
The new facilities cover around 900 m2, with state-of-the-art seminar and media equipment. In the future, they will be used for study purposes, in-service certificate courses and practice-oriented transfer activities. The third area includes the new “Masterclass in Lunch & Learn Format”, which will take place on campus every Tuesday at 12 pm from 25 November onward. This format brings together students, teaching staff and company representatives for an open discussion of current topics related to the energy transition and sustainability transformations.
The first students are already benefiting this winter semester from company scholarships provided by the EUREF partners Schneider Electric and SPIE. The first two English-taught Master’s programs, “Management of Smart and Sustainable Energy Systems” and “Sustainable Energy and Hydrogen Infrastructures”, have already been accredited for the 2025/2026 winter semester. The plan is for two further programs to follow next year.
