Students learn how to work scientifically
On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the lecture "Scientific Work" took place in the Erich-Brost-Haus on the campus of the Technical University of Dortmund.
The event was part of TU Dortmund University's Writing Week (23.-27.02.2026) and was aimed in particular at first-year students, but was open to students of all semesters.
The group of participants reflected this openness: a broad spectrum was represented, from first-year students to students about to write their Bachelor's or Master's thesis to a participant from the student university. The topics, questions and concerns brought to the event were correspondingly diverse and individual.
The two-hour lecture focused on all the central steps of academic work – from finding and narrowing down the topic and structuring the work process to practical tips for research, time management and text structure. In addition to basic tools of the trade, participants were given useful tricks and insider knowledge about writing academic papers as well as information about support services at the university.
The interactive nature of the event was particularly well received: The intensive exchange among each other provided space for individual questions, experiences and mutual support. This created a lively working atmosphere in which both beginners and advanced students were able to benefit from each other.
The event impressively demonstrated how beneficial the dialog-oriented approach to academic work is – and offered many participants valuable guidance for their upcoming term papers, Bachelor's or Master's theses.
