On campus and in the city, there are a wide range of science communication events that promote dialog between researchers, Dortmund's citizens and school students.
Public formats of the university
- TU Dortmund University Open House (annually in the fall)
- tu │kultur (only German): exhibitions on the University Days in the Dortmunder U (all year round)
- KinderUni (only German): series of events for children aged between 8 and 12 (semester program)
- Initial Spark: Lecture series with Nobel Prize winners at TU Dortmund University
- Gambrinus Forum: Lecture series with renowned scientists at the Westfälischer Industrieklub (annually in November)

- Zwischen Brötchen & Borussia - Modern physics for everyone: Lecture series for the whole family (Department of Physics, four dates per semester)
- Bild & Klang (only German): Public lecture series in the Reinoldikirche (Academy of Fine Arts, annually in the winter semester)
- Climate: Change - Values - Science: Public, interdisciplinary lecture series (Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering, annually in winter semester)

- SchnupperUni: Study orientation week for pupils from the 10th grade onwards (annually during summer vacation)

- MINTU - Mädchen in die TU Dortmund University (only German): Mentoring for schoolgirls aged 12 to 14 (annually)
- Girls*Day and Boys*Day (both only German): for pupils from 5th to 10th grade (annually in April)
