Every year, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia awards the NRW Innovation Prize to people whose inventiveness and entrepreneurship enable economic progress in the region. This year, the TU spin-off MotionMiners is one of the award winners: Dr.-Ing. Sascha Feldhorst, co-founder of MotionMiners GmbH, received the award on 25 September in Düsseldorf from Mona Neubaur, NRW Minister for Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy.

For the first time, personalities along the various stages of the innovation chain were honored – from testing an outstanding idea to commercial application and scaling. The TU start-up MotionMiners received the award in the category “innovation2market”, which is endowed with 25,000 euros. This category honors entrepreneurs who succeed in transferring innovations into a broad, commercial application and in providing significant impetus for economic dynamism and prosperity – and in doing so achieve particularly strong growth just a few years after their introduction on the market.

Dr.-Ing. Sascha Feldhorst, co-founder of MotionMiners GmbH, accepted the award: “For us as MotionMiners, this award is also a confirmation that Dortmund is an excellent location to realize technology-based business ideas that have nationwide relevance and visibility. Our success is based on a strong ecosystem that exists here in Dortmund. Thank you to CET, TU Dortmund University, the Economic Development Agency Dortmund and all our supporters.”

Founded in 2017, MotionMiners GmbH has developed a technology that uses mobile sensor technology, artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze motion and manual workflows quickly, anonymously and cost-effectively in order to improve the ergonomic working conditions of employees and optimize work processes. The Center for Entrepreneurship and Transfer (CET) at TU Dortmund University has accompanied and supported the successful founders since their beginnings. The start-up now has more than 60 employees and is based in the Dortmund technology park.
