Three TU students have already been nominated for the squad of prospective athletes:

For Jana Stüwe, participating in the FISU Games on home soil is a realistic goal. The 21-year-old has been part of the German national water polo team for several years and is the captain of the Bochum Bundesliga water polo team. The teachers’ education student is particularly excited about intense matches against international teams and the short travel distance to the venue in Duisburg, which allows her family and friends to support her live at the games.
For Verena Meisl, the student multi-sport event is, quite literally, a home game, as the athletics competitions will take place at the stadium of her home club, TV Wattenscheid. To participate in the FISU Games, the 23-year-old must meet the qualification standard for the 800 meters by June. The Mechanical Engineering student aims to leverage the unique atmosphere of the games to push her limits and looks forward to interacting with athletes who, like her, balance academics and sports without being full-time professionals.

Another middle-distance runner, Karolina Haas, is also aiming to compete at the FISU Games. As the newly crowned German University Champion in the 800 meters, she is optimistic about meeting the qualification standard and participating in her signature discipline. Haas, 20, represents LG Olympia Dortmund and studies Special Education Teacher Training at TU Dortmund University. She hopes to gain more international experience through the games.
In addition to the TU trio, other hopefuls include track and field athlete Jakob Stade, who studies Medical Physics, and rower Noel Jaschke, a Business and Economics student.
Combining academics and elite sports has a long tradition in Dortmund. Many athletes take advantage of excellent training facilities while studying at TU Dortmund University. As a partner university of top-level sports, TU Dortmund University offers optimal conditions for students to pursue both their academic and athletic careers.
At the last FISU World University Games in Chengdu, China, in 2023, TU students Lukas Föbinger, David Keefer, and Leon Schandl won a silver medal in the rowing eight.
