No rain, a bit of sun, not too warm – the Campus Run 2024 kicked off under perfect running weather. The approximately 1,250 runners and the numerous visitors remained dry until the certificate ceremony.
Athletes compete in various disciplines
The Kids Run was the first to start, with Lasse Kemena (1:56) and Zoé Boka Batakoa (2:09) the first to cross the finish line. Immediately afterwards Prof. Tessa Flatten, Vice President International Affairs, opened the 2.5-kilometer run. Maurice Eisfeld (8:27 minutes) and Karlotta Jule Kranz (9:58 minutes) ran the course the fastest. Simultaneously, the starting signal for the Math Tower Run was given, in which participants climbed the 220 steps of the highest TU Dortmund University building: Christopher Irving (1:13.3) and Andrea Gößlinghoff (1:49.2) each reached the tenth floor the fastest.
In the popular 5-kilometer run, Lorenz Rix with 17:20 minutes and Franka Sophie Herbst with 20:32 minutes led the way. After that, the 10-kilometer run started, with Felix Wolff (33:45) and Anna Gehring (36:38) being the first to cross the finish line. Finally, the relay race began, with “The Pacers” finishing as the fastest team: Tim Wagner, Lukas Ehrentraut, Noah Ben Bader, and Marvin Jesinghaus ran the 4 x 2.5 kilometers in 33:22 minutes. As in the previous year, in addition to the men’s and women’s classifications, there was also the option to compete in the “diverse” category.
From TU Dortmund University, various teams participated with a total of 458 participants, thus accounting for about one-third of all registrations. Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts entered a team of around 100 runners and thus won the “most finishers” award. The Dortmund Campus Run was also the first of four stages that teams from different universities compete in for the NRW University Run Cup. Here, the best Dortmund team finished in second place, just behind the competition from the University of Cologne.
Creative Costumes and Campus Champs awarded
As usual, some runners and teams showed up in creative costumes – this time, six pink Disney characters were awarded at the end of the event. Additionally, the Campus Champ Challenge was held again: This honor goes to those who complete the 5-km run, the 10-km TOP Run, and the Mathetower Run the fastest overall. This year, the award went to Lorenz Rix and Antonia Köhr.
“The 38th Campus Run took place under the best running conditions,” said Christoph Edeler, Head of the Office of University Sports. “The varied course and the numerous runners and spectators make it a vibrant running event, with which TU Dortmund University demonstrates its sporting prowess year after year.”
