Overview
The Master of Science in Manufacturing Technology (MMT) focuses on the analysis of advanced manufacturing problems, with emphasis on the combination of scientific-theoretical courses and experimental industrial test setups. The master's program, conducted entirely in English, offers outstanding, motivated, and dedicated students an excellent university education in a research-based setting with industry collaborations. In addition, you can experience intercultural exchange with your fellow students from around the world.
In the first two semesters, students acquire in-depth, theoretical knowledge in manufacturing engineering. In addition, students choose elective modules according to their individual interests. The second year of study is dedicated to the acquisition of practical skills by completing the laboratory and scientific project work modules. This consolidates the understanding as well as the competence to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. Likewise, students will learn to compare manufacturing processes currently used in industry with the state of the art in specific fields. In addition, students will become familiar with the organization and implementation of projects with several members. Due to the international nature of the Master's program, students acquire intercultural competence. The Interdisciplinary Qualification module allows students to become familiar with the methodology of other disciplines such as humanities, social sciences, or economics. The skills acquired in the rhetoric and language courses can be applied in everyday professional life and contribute to the students' personal development. With the final master’s thesis, students demonstrate their ability to work independently on a complex problem.
Skills and knowledge
Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree, e.g. in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent. Their bachelor's education should include at least three years of engineering courses with at least 180 credit points* (CP) of achievements from the following disciplinary content:
- min. 9 CP mechanics
- min. 15 CP mathematics
- min. 15 CP materials engineering, production engineering, design engineering and/or metallurgy and control engineering.
The achievements from the listed scientific areas should result in a total of at least 50 credit points.
*1 credit point corresponds to 30 working hours
Since this is an English-only program, sufficient knowledge of the English language (min. competence level B 2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is required. In addition, a Bachelor’s degree with an average grade of 2.9 (German system) is required for the MMT program.
