As part of the Studium Fundamentale, students at TU Dortmund University acquire knowledge and skills beyond their subject boundaries by attending courses in other disciplines. By gaining an insight into other subjects and cultures, they broaden their perspective, develop a broader understanding of problems, findings and approaches to solutions in their own discipline and prepare themselves for the complex tasks in the world of work and life.

While certificate programs are voluntary additional services, the Studium Fundamentale is part of the above-mentioned degree programs. In principle, however, students from other disciplines may also take part in courses that are open to the Studium Fundamentale.

Detailed information on the Studium Fundamentale can be found on the websites of the Departments of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Spatial Planning and Educational Sciences and Psychology.
