Overview

The B.A. in Rehabilitation Pedagogy teaches knowledge, skills and methods in the following fields: Social rehabilitation and education, services and support for people with disabilities, social welfare and the healthcare system.

Students receive broad basic instruction in the area of social rehabilitation which allows for deeper specialization in specific fields and for further training. They develop skills that enable them to put scientific findings and developments into practice and to process and communicate specialist knowledge in a way suitable for specific target groups. In addition, the program offers the possibility to study particular areas of social and educational rehabilitation in greater depth, taking an illustrative approach, and teaches methodical skills through project-based and cross-disciplinary activities.

The program is divided into three parts: Foundation modules, specialization modules and elective modules. The specialization modules are “Work and Health with a Focus on Inclusion and Participation”, “Inclusion and Participation through Technology and Media” and “Inclusive Education”. Towards the end of the first year of the program, students complete an eight-week practical phase in institutions and organizations engaged in social rehabilitation and education. This is flanked by corresponding preparatory and follow-up courses. At the heart of the program is the project work in the third year of study, where students work on topics independently.

Skills and knowledge

In addition to the general higher education entrance qualification, prospective students should have a fundamental interest in work in the social sector. Empathy, the capacity for teamwork and openness towards others and their ways of life are key prerequisites for this program. Future rehabilitation educators should be capable of approaching others, interested in social problems and willing to develop individual problem-solving strategies. Diversity, resource orientation and participation are key themes in the program.
