The Jewish Bible or “Old Testament” has played a central role in the creation of national identities. This lecture explores how the ancient biblical authors invented the very concept of nationhood or peoplehood, and how this concept diverges on crucial points from the political programs of nationalism.
The lecture will be given by Prof. Jacob L. Wright. He is Professor of Hebrew Bible at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and author of the award-winning book “Why the Bible Began” (Cambridge University Press, 2023). He was awarded the Gambrinus Scholarship 2023 and is a visiting professor at the Department of Humanities and Theology at TU Dortmund University.
The lecture will be held in English.
