Media, including mass media and social media, are playing an ever-increasing vital role in society. This role includes enabling important human needs such as being informed, voicing, and promoting security. While these roles, and others, are crucial in everyday life, they are of the upmost importance during a hazardous situation such as a natural disaster, a pandemic, or a war. This lecture will discuss the role media played in the October 7th events in Israel.
Speaker is Prof. Dr. Baruch Shomron, Professor in Communication Science at the Department of Communication at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. His research focuses on the relationship between media usage, representations, and access, and their relation to justice, human rights, and capabilities, especially regarding marginalized populations.
The lecture is held in English.
