In the new CHE University Ranking, TU Dortmund University’s bachelor’s programs in Biochemical and Chemical Engineering are ranked first nationwide. Additionally, the bachelor’s programs in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology also make it into the Top Ten. In five newly ranked engineering science programs, TU Dortmund University excels with excellent support at the start of studies. Moreover, the surveyed students are very satisfied with the organization of their programs at TU Dortmund University. The results were published in May on the HeyStudium website.

The two programs from the Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering reach the top tier in three of the four pre-selected categories, placing them among the best nationwide. The respondents are particularly pleased with the general study situation and the teaching offerings. Furthermore, the fact-check awards a high score for support at the beginning of studies. The bachelor’s program in Mechanical Engineering also impressed the respondents in these three categories, securing its place among the nationwide Top Ten in its class. Meanwhile, the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology program ranks among the best ten programs in Germany in terms of study organization, teaching offerings, and support at the start of studies. Thanks to its excellent support at the beginning of studies, TU Dortmund University scores high overall in the current ranking: apart from the four previously mentioned bachelor’s programs, the Architecture and Civil Engineering program also secures a position in the top tier.

Excellent Study Organization

In addition to concrete data on studies, teaching, and research, the ranking created by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE, Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung) also includes evaluations by students. In the survey section, students could award up to five stars in various categories: the respondents rated the study organization extremely positively throughout, with Mechanical Engineering receiving 4.5 stars and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology 4.8 stars. Biochemical and Chemical Engineering also scores well regarding the equipment of the laboratories for practical training (4.4) and learning spaces (4.2). In Mechanical Engineering, the IT infrastructure and support for international experiences (4.2 each) are particularly commended.

Beyond the rankings in nationally comparable subjects, TU Dortmund University’s Department of Statistics also participated in the CHE survey with its unique offerings. Here, students especially appreciated the introduction to academic research and the career orientation programs (4.3 each), as well as the support provided by the instructors (4.1).
