“The well-being of our students and employees is of the utmost importance to the Rectorate of TU Dortmund University,” emphasized Prof. Manfred Bayer at the start of the project, adding: “That's why we are installing a slide starting from the ninth floor of the Math Tower so that they can get plenty of momentum for their day and have fun while studying and working, too. The slide will also get them to the cafeteria faster and they won't miss the S-Bahn anymore because they'll get to the stop more quickly.”
After conducting a feasibility study, the ninth floor was determined to be the optimal entry point for the slide, as it would particularly benefit users on the top three floors. If the slide proves to be a success, TU President Prof. Manfred Bayer can imagine installing more slides on campus or adding additional features to the Math Tower slide: “For example, I have an idea for a freefall section for that extra adrenaline rush. On hot summer days, we could also add an optional water feature with high-pressure massage jets.”
On weekends, the slide will also be open to non-TU members for a small fee. The revenue will be used to upgrade the slide with a loop.
