Overview

The program is divided into a basic and a profile study.

Within the framework of the basic studies, the fundamentals of all business and economic subareas of an economics degree program are taught. In addition to traditional topics for mapping and explaining economic processes, current challenges (e.g. digitalization) and relevant accompanying disciplines (e.g. private law) are also addressed. Furthermore, key competencies (e.g. presentation techniques) are intensively trained. In order to meet the requirements for an internationally recognized degree, proof of English language skills is also a mandatory component.

Within the framework of the profile studies, students acquire in-depth knowledge in special application areas on the basis of numerous elective options, also in English. The decision for one of the following competence areas can sharpen the students' professional profile already in the Bachelor’s degree program:

- Data, Decisions, Economic Policy
- Business Analytics and Operations Management
- Finance, Accounting, Controlling, Taxation
- Financial Markets and Financial Economics
- Global Management, Marketing, and Human Resources
- Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Digitalization

Alternatively, students choose between the business administration, the business economics, and the economics major in order to make their profile decision only in the course of the Master’s degree program.

Skills and knowledge

An interest in economics contexts as well as proficiency in mathematics and the English language are fundamental requirements for admission to the program. Participating in a preliminary math course a few weeks before lectures begin helps students get off to a good start.

The Department expects a high level of motivation and dedication from its students as well as the will to show self-commitment during the course of the program (language courses, internships, work experience, stays abroad, career preparation) and commitment towards others (departmental student council, tutoring) as well as to become involved as an active member of the Department (course feedback, attendance of guest lectures, participation in workshops and other non-curricular activities).

Field of activity

The Bachelor’s degree program is a stepping stone especially for positions in industry, commerce and the skilled trades, banks, insurance companies and other service providers, research institutes, associations and the public sector. Examples of professional fields are marketing, human resources, consulting, controlling, accounting, auditing, purchasing, sales/distribution, project management and many more besides.

Additional information

Already a few weeks before the start of lectures, participation in a mathematics pre-course provides a helpful introduction to studies.

In the course of the studies, information and support offers are provided at regular intervals for the further design and successful completion of the studies.

The English-language courses and international cooperations of the faculty and university enable students to acquire important intercultural knowledge and skills.

An internship is not mandatory in the course of study. Nevertheless, it should be used as an opportunity for an early insight into the professional world and for gaining initial practical experience. The faculty is happy to support the integration of an internship into the course of studies.
